Since 01/01/2005 financial assistance for learning
German has been available from the German government. This measure is mainly directed at new immigrants, i. e. persons, who have taken up residence in Germany from 01/01/2005 onwards.
The entitlement to assistance applies to foreigners, who have been granted a limited residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) for more than one year or hold an unlumited residence permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) for more than 18 months, unless their stay is only temporary.
The courses organised under this assistance program are called integration courses and run for a maximum of 600 lessons on the levels A1 to B1 of the Common European Reference Frame. Entitled persons with previous knowledge of German are tested and their number of lessons is reduced accordingly. It is also planned to hold orientation courses with 30 lessons, where the focus is on German law, culture and history.
Participants in integration courses pay a contribution of 1,-€ per lesson to the course organiser.
The application-form for admission to integration courses and a leaflet with detailed information in different languages is available from our office. If you wish, we can also assist you with filling in the form!
Applications should be sent to the regional office of the “Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge” (Federal Office for Migration and Refugees) here in Munich.
